About this riff
Eight notes, played fast, jumping between strings. It looks harder than it is, because your fretting hand hardly moves. This is the one to build up to.
The record is tuned down a half step. Stay in normal tuning to learn it, and tune down before you play with the record.
What helps
- Put your first finger on fret 12 and leave your hand there. Fingers three and four cover frets 14 and 15.
- All the difficulty is in the picking hand. Stay at half speed until you stop hitting the wrong string.
- Slash said he came up with this as a string-skipping warm-up, so treat it as one.
