About Guitaring
A free AI-powered guitar practice companion built for self-taught guitarists who want to improve faster without paying for lessons.
Why We Built This
Learning guitar on your own is hard. Not because guitar is hard β it's actually one of the most approachable instruments β but because the feedback loop is broken. You play a chord, it sounds wrong, and you have no idea if it's your finger placement, your tuning, your rhythm, or all three.
Most guitar apps are either expensive, bloated, or built for people who already know what they're doing. We built Guitaring for everyone else: the person who picked up a guitar last month, the person who played in college and wants to get back into it, the person who just wants to learn three chords and play songs they love.
The AI coach is the core of it. Ask it anything β βwhy does my G chord sound buzzy?β or βwhat's the difference between a capo at fret 2 and changing the key?β β and you get a real, specific answer. Not a video that starts with 10 minutes of background. Just the answer.

How It's Built
Guitaring runs entirely in the browser. No app to download. No native code. The chromatic tuner uses the Web Audio API and pitch detection algorithms (Pitchy) to identify notes in real time from your device microphone. The AI coaching is powered by GPT-4o-mini via Azure OpenAI. Authentication and data storage run on Supabase.
It's built with Next.js 14, Tailwind CSS v4, and TypeScript. The chord library is a hand-curated dataset of 84 chords with accurate fingering data. The song play-along system syncs chord display to YouTube videos using a requestAnimationFrame loop with cyclic beat tracking β no drift, no BPM extrapolation.
